I’d like to make a few comments on several of the book reviews for this title listed in Amazon. Most of them are five stars out of five, but there are several one star reviews, if a one sentence blurb can be called a review. A few people are claiming that Dr. Grossan’s co-author, Deborah Fulghum Bruce, is having her friends write five star reviews for her books. Ms. Bruce is the co-author on a good number of health related books. My question to the above mentioned reviewers is: “What does that have to do with sinus problems?” If they want to criticize the book on the merits of the subject matter, that would be reasonable. However, the main author of the book and certainly the expert on the subject of sinusitis, is Dr. Grossan, who is a renowned ENT who has spent his life treating sinus patients. These so-called reviews seem to be sour grapes by a few people who have something against Dr. Grossan’s co-author. Another reviewer, who rated the book 4 stars out of 5, said the main reason for the book seemed to be to make sales for Dr. Grossan’s expensive nasal irrigator. I agree that it would be nice if the irrigator were less expensive, but I doubt Dr. Grossan sets the price on that. He appears to have licensed a firm to market and sell the products he has developed, so the price is probably set by that firm. (I have no personal knowledge of this, however, I am just one of the firm’s customers). But then again, how does one define the word expensive? In relation to what? I used to come down with 3-4 sinus infections per year. Most of these were treated by an ENT who prescribed antibiotics and other medications. Those episodes were also expensive and were painful on top of that. This is not even to mention the sinus operations I went through to try and avoid having those infections. So for me the irrigator is not expensive at all, to the contrary. As a sinus sufferer and a person who has benefited greatly from Dr. Grossan’s book, I would simply urge that every sinus sufferer own it and refer to it when his or her sinus problems begin to flare up. It is in paperback and is more than worth the ten bucks it costs. |
